Select to Champion Greater Philadelphia in Germany

The Chamber’s Select Greater Philadelphia Council (Select) has partnered with the City of Philadelphia to arrange an 18-person visit to Germany from September 24-30 in an effort to develop and reinforce a robust trade relationship, an exchange of best practices in workforce development and to nurture business development and attraction opportunities with this European country. The seven-day trade and investment mission will include meetings and presentations in cities across Germany, including Philadelphia’s newest “Sister City” Frankfurt.

“We will continue to build on the relationship with Frankfurt and Potsdam which brought delegations to Philadelphia last year as well as Select’s visits to Hannover and Frankfurt,” said Jeanne Nevelos, Select’s representative on the trip and Vice President of Business Expansion Services. “In addition, we are meeting with representatives of Berlin’s technology community to build a bridge between our two innovation economies. Connecting with our German partners and various companies is particularly important because strong international business ties are sustained only through continuous and open dialogue.”

Select will be joined by representatives from the City of Philadelphia and members of the business community, including executives from six Chamber member companies: Bradley & Bradley Associates, Inc., CH2M, Citizen Diplomacy International, Peirce College, Reed Smith and Temple University. Thank you to Chamber members Morgan Lewis and Greenberg Traurig LLP for hosting the delegation for sessions in Frankfurt and Berlin, respectively, during their visit.

As part of a packed itinerary, Jeanne will co-present “Shale Gas as a Game Changer: Update 2016 – Opportunities in the Petrochemical Industry and Energy Intensive Manufacturing” with Chamber member CH2M to a group of energy and manufacturing executives in Frankfurt. This presentation is the continuation of the work of the Greater Philadelphia Energy Action Team (GPEAT), a consortium of leaders, convened through the Chamber, working together to establish our region as an energy hub in order to stimulate manufacturing and economic development by building awareness, influencing policy makers and facilitating the development of energy assets. The Frankfurt presentation will include findings from A Pipeline for Growth: Fueling Economic Revitalization with Marcellus and Utica Shale Gas, a report recently released by the group detailing a strategy for the creation of this regional energy hub.

Select was in Germany earlier this year as part of a regional team representing our Greater Philadelphia community at the Hannover Messe 2016 Conference, the world’s largest industrial tradeshow and capital goods exhibition, in Hannover, Germany. The conference took place April 25 – 28 and drew over 240,000 participants from around the world, offering insight and business development connections in the IT, manufacturing, and robotics space, among others. Following the Hannover Messe conference, Select promoted our regional assets at key meetings in Frankfurt, Germany, leveraging the “Sister City” relationship established last year between Frankfurt and Philadelphia.

The following regional leaders will be part of Philadelphia’s official delegation:

  • Steven Bradley, Bradley & Bradley Associates, Inc. / PHL Airport Advisory Board, Board Member at World Trade Center of Greater Philadelphia and African American Chamber of Commerce
  • Uva Coles, VP of Institutional Advancement & Strategic Partnerships, Peirce College
