Career Pathways: Engaging the Region’s Future Leaders

Posted Thursday, May 4th, 2017

Programs & Events, Action Teams, Education & Talent

As an employer, cultivating talent for your business is crucial. To close the talent and skills gap, the Chamber of Commerce for Greater Philadelphia’s Education & Talent Action Team is working to address this issue that persists among our members and top employers.

Today’s youth will ultimately shape the future workforce of our region. If we do not invest in their career pathways, we will continue to struggle with closing the talent gap.

Through the Chamber and its member companies, you can invest in career pathways for youth in one of three ways:

Read to Me

Support Early Literacy in Philadelphia and inspire the value of reading by donating to the 13th Annual Read to Me Storyteller Event.

Tax-deductible reader contributions provide quality classroom book collections to thousands of students as part of this year-long initiative to encourage children to read with their parents, caregivers, or teachers.

Summer jobs are a critical entry point for youth employment. For many young people, it’s their first job, teaching them the necessary 21st century skills they need to thrive. When more opportunities are available, and young people have access to employment, the impacts can be seen community-wide.

WorkReady, managed by the Philadelphia Youth Network, provides summer jobs to vulnerable young people.

Future Ready

Middle school is a key period in the development of a young person. Keeping these students engaged in school at this critical juncture helps propel them forward to a successful high school and post-secondary experience, and even a career.

Future Ready engages and enlightens Philadelphia middle school students about future career opportunities and the paths to take to get them there.
