What steps must the Greater Philadelphia region take to become the healthiest community in the nation?

If Philadelphia plans to leverage its health care assets to become the healthiest community in the nation, we must first address the problem at hand.

The Problem

  • Health and productivity issues are a $300B cost to US Businesses.
  • Lack of healthfulness in an organization is costly in that it decreases productivity, increases costs, and negatively impacts profitability and shareholder value.

When addressed, besides impacting the company, there is also a positive impact on the healthfulness of employees, their families, and the communities in which they live. Positive outcomes include:

  • Health risk reduction
  • Health care cost savings
  • Decreased at-work conflicts
  • Improved employee relations
  • Increased productivity
  • Increased customer satisfaction and loyalty
  • Increased profitability

Imagine This: The nation’s healthiest region created by a collaborative of Greater Philadelphia companies willing to share best practices and test against metrics TOGETHER.

In May, a group of influential corporate leaders from the Greater Philadelphia region who want to impact Healthfulness in their organizations as well as our community got together to discuss this vision and agreed that together we can:

  • Envision the connection between positively impacting Healthfulness in our own organizations and transferring that impact into the community.
  • Value leveraging a Consortium of leaders for peer learning.
  • Believe leveraging the peer-effect of Healthfulness initiatives in a collaboration creates momentum for change and opportunities for positive PR for their own organizations.
  • Commit to exploring the connection between Healthfulness actions with metrics-driven impacts.

The Solution

The Healthy Company Consortium – an initiative positioning Greater Philadelphia as the first and most successful region nationally that focuses on Healthfulness originating from the business community.

We agreed our goals would include:

  • Work collaboratively to identify and implement metrics-driven programs that can:
    • Decrease the rate of health premium trend
    • Positively impact employee relations
    • Improve productivity
  • Positively impact Philadelphia by up-leveling Healthfulness in organizations and communities in this region

How Your Company Can Benefit:

  • Improve the profitability of your company by impacting health trend and productivity
  • Improve the image of your company by impacting health, employee relations, and community impact
