Whether you’re looking to stay on top of best practices in people management; attract, engage and develop top talent; or provide experiential learning for high-potential employees, the Chamber of Commerce for Greater Philadelphia — including its Councils and subsidiaries — have a range of programs, peer groups, and meaningful learning/service opportunities that will help you and your colleagues succeed.

Support for HR Leaders and Talent Attraction

  • HR Roundtable is an annual series of interactive gatherings for human resources professionals to discuss industry trends and share best practices. Join HR Professionals from various industries and company sizes as they come together to share ideas and solutions to common HR challenges. Past topics include employee onboarding methods, mentoring your organization’s future leaders, implementing workplace flexibility, and taking control of employee performance.

  • The Chamber engages organizations through Employer Roundtables and other gatherings to help understand, aggregate and communicate the talent needs that drive our region’s key industry verticals. This feedback is critical to communicating the regional labor market needs and pathways opportunities, including skills, credentials and educational requirements to the regional workforce community. These discussions also help fuel connections among employers, educators and talent providers to position employees (from youth through adults) and employers for success.
  • The Chamber’s Diversity & Inclusion Initiative (D&I) supports professionals in diversity leadership roles and executive positions from all industries. Forums are designed for leaders committed to collectively advancing the business case for diversity within their companies and across the region.
  • Benefit Services, Inc., a subsidiary of the Chamber of Commerce for Greater Philadelphia, has partnered with USI, the region’s largest employee benefit solutions wholesaler for companies with 20-300 employees, to provide Chamber members with access to an enhanced employee benefits program called My Benefit Advisor.

Professional and Leadership Development

  • The Chamber’s Young Professionals Council (YPC) offers ambitious, visionary young people access to a strong, diverse network of peers, mentors, and regional business and civic leaders. With more than 1,800 young professionals ages 22-40, YPC builds ties that help to further individual careers, forge friendships, and encourage community service. Membership includes access to monthly networking events, quarterly professional development programs and workshops, connections to volunteer organizations and nonprofits, and various leadership development opportunities.
  • More and more businesses are offering board service as a leadership development opportunity for their company’s emerging leaders. Business On Board offers a combination of classroom and experiential learning that promotes effective board governance and places participants with the boards of arts and culture organizations. Attorneys may receive CLE credits for course content.
  • CreativeXchange is a five-session design-thinking, user-experience and arts-thinking series for leaders interested in solving real-time challenges using fresh perspectives. The program, offered each spring, takes individuals and teams out of the world of analytical thinking and teaches them to apply creative processes to internal/external organizational scenarios.
  • Designing Leadership is a five-session executive development course for creative professionals from both the nonprofit arts and the for-profit business communities. The curriculum, offered each fall, is taught by expert faculty from organizations such as The Wharton School and IBM’s Leadership Academy.
  • Pay It Forward offers members of the Young Professionals Council the opportunity to be paired with an executive based on personal and professional goals and interests, competencies, experience and expectations. Program partners meet for group workshops and are encouraged to meet on an individual basis over the course of the program year. In addition, Pay It Forward mentees are invited to participate in a professional development experience to strengthen their leadership skills.
  • The CEO Access Network facilitates relationships between large-business CEOs and minority entrepreneurs to help advance economic opportunities for urban businesses and residents. Over the course of the year, the CEO Access Network engages in formal gatherings led by thought leaders, in addition to meeting on their own time.

Employee Engagement and Skills-Based Volunteering

  • The Arts + Business Council has a range of year-round programs for business, technology and legal professionals that include periodic new volunteer orientation sessions and carefully curated matches on volunteer consulting projects.
  • The Read to Me Early Literacy Program supports early childhood literacy by providing quality classroom book collections to thousands of Philadelphia students and inspiring them to read with their parents, caregivers and teachers throughout the school year.
  • Future Ready is a transformational program that engages and enlightens Philadelphia middle school students about future career opportunities and the paths to get them there. The program provides in-classroom instruction and culminates with a unique experience where they have the opportunity to visit a local company to meet and interact with professionals in a workplace environment. In preparation for the workplace visit, employers can designate a team of employees to plan the day-of experience. This provides an opportunity for your employees to engage in a cross-organizational team and showcase their creativity and ability to execute a new program.
